Deadly Solo Crash in the Dry Lake Bed Near Tecopa and Charleston View, CA

INYO COUNTY, Calif., (May 22, 2026) — A fatal crash involving a single vehicle occurred in the early hours of Friday morning in the Mojave Desert near Mesquite Valley Road north of Charleston View.

The incident, reported on May 22nd at approximately 12:46 a.m., took place in a dry lake bed on the California side of the border, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following the collision notification.

The vehicle, which remained at the location, reportedly caused three injuries, with two individuals suffering critical injuries. At least one person was later confirmed dead at the scene. The specifics surrounding the cause of the crash remain unclear at this time. The Nye County Coroner has been involved due to the geographical location of the incident near the Nevada-California border.
