Father, Daughter Killed, Mother Toddler Injured in Harvard Park Crash
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2024) – A man and his daughter were killed, his wife and toddler left critically injured in a crash on New Year’s Eve on Normandie Avenue at 60th Place in Los Angeles.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at around 11:20 p.m. on Dec. 31st when a driver in a white Chevrolet Tahoe SUV allegedly drove through a stop sign at 60th Place in the Harvard Park area, according to a report by KTLA 5 News.
The SUV collided with a small sedan occupied by a family of four as it headed south on Normandie Avenue. Upon impact, the car was sent careening into a street sign and fence on the southwest corner of 60th Place and Normandie Avenue, police said.
Several good Samaritans were on the scene to help the victims exit the smoking sedan, police said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived and declared the father deceased on scene. They transported the two girls and their mother to a local hospital. However, the 5-year-old girl died upon arrival to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the mother remains on life support and the surviving child remain is also listed in critical condition at the hospital, police said.
Fatal Crash Investigation
Prior to the deadly crash, the SUV driver was reportedly speeding away from an earlier traffic collision where it allegedly rear-ended a red sedan. Police say the red sedan’s driver was following the SUV as it sped away. However, the SUV allegedly ran through the stop sign and the driver in the red car stopped.
Authorities say the driver of the SUV was also injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The motorist faces multiple felony charges including the possibility of murder/gross vehicular manslaughter.
