Fatal Crash on 118 Freeway in Chatsworth Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

CHATSWORTH, Calif. (Sept. 14, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision on the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in Chatsworth early Monday morning left one person dead and two others injured, with a vehicle overturning in the crash.

The accident occurred on Sept. 14th around 1:27 a.m. on the westbound freeway near Topanga Canyon Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Emergency crews responding to the scene found two vehicles involved in the collision. One had overturned, and three people were evaluated for injuries. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol closed multiple westbound lanes near the crash site as investigators and emergency crews worked in the area.

By the morning commute, four lanes remained closed, leaving only the carpool lane available. A SigAlert was issued because of the significant traffic disruption.

The crash caused westbound traffic to back up as far as Porter Ranch Drive. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the closures remained in place.
