Fatal Crash on Escondido Avenue, Palm Street in Hesperia

HESPERIA, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2026) — A 9-year-old Hesperia girl, identified as Mia-Tafi Fetu, died following a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on Escondido Avenue, just south of Palm Street in Hesperia.
The crash occurred around 7:10 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Hesperia intersection between a white 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE50 and a red Honda Civic, according to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities say the Mercedes-Benz was traveling southbound on Escondido Avenue when the eastbound Honda Civic drove into the path of the other driver in an attempt to turn left onto northbound Escondido Avenue.
Deputies responded and located both vehicles in the northbound lanes of Escondido Avenue. The Honda had major damage on its rear-driver’s side door when it was hit by the southbound Mercedes-Benz.
The 19-year-old Oak Hills woman driving the Mercedes-Benz was hospitalized with an injured arm, and the 17-year-old female driver of the Honda Civic was treated for minor injuries at the hospital. Mia-Tafi Fetu was a passenger in the Honda, seated in the back of the vehicle, and suffered major injuries. She was taken to the hospital where the student from Mission Crest Elementary School later died.
Meanwhile, the Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to handle the investigation.
