Man, 85, Killed; 3 Injured in Lompoc Valley Crash
LOMPOC VALLEY, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2024) — An 85-year-old Lompoc man is dead and three others were injured in a fatal crash on Highway 1 and Santa Lucia Canyon Road in Lompoc Valley.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 8:49 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21st, according to the California Highway Patrol and Noozhawk.
Larry Vanderhoofven Killed, Patsy Vanderhoofven Hurt
Larry Vanderhoofven, 85, and Patsy Vanderhoofven, 84, were traveling eastbound in a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze on Santa Lucia Canyon Road. Larry Vanderhoofven was driving and attempting turn left onto Highway 1 when his car collided with a southbound 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix occupied by two Santa Maria men.
The 85-year-old Lompoc man suffered major injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, his female passenger also had major injuries and was hospitalized at Marian Regional Medical Center.
Ulises Sanches, Severiano Avila Injured
Meanwhile, the Pontiac driver, Ulises Sanchez, 33, and his passenger, Severiano Avila, 21, were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
CHP officials are heading up the investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fatal crash in Lompoc Valley, but preliminary results indicate that drugs and or alcohol were not factors.
