Fatal Crash on Highway 20, Lone Star Road in Colusa

COLUSA COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 11, 2026) — A fatal collision involving a Honda and a large United Rentals truck shut down both directions of Highway 20 on Friday morning near Lone Star Road, according to California Highway Patrol incident information.
The crash was reported shortly after 8 a.m. Sept. 11 on the bridge near Lone Star Road. CHP initially reported a vehicle fire and major injuries then requested assistance from the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office.
One person suffered fatal injuries. Also, the big-rig driver was transported to the hospital after complaints of pain, according to CHP traffic logs.
The crash also resulted in a significant hazardous-material spill. CHP reported approximately 120 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway and into a nearby canal, prompting notification of the California Office of Emergency Services and other agencies.
Fire crews and other emergency personnel responded to the scene, while authorities requested a commercial tow truck to remove the vehicles.
CHP issued a SigAlert after 8:30 a.m., reporting that all lanes of eastbound State Route 20 at Lone Star Road were blocked because of the vehicle fire. The closure was later expanded to both eastbound and westbound lanes from Lone Star Road to Hunter Road.
Motorists were advised to use alternate routes and expect significant delays.
The CHP incident was closed at approximately 8:54 a.m., although the roadway remained affected as crews dealt with the crash, vehicle removal and diesel spill.
The fatality was reported as part of the incident, but CHP’s initial traffic information did not identify the person who died. The circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation.
