Fatal Crash Reported on Highway 88 Near Pine Grove

Amador County, Calif. (August 20, 2025) – A fatal crash in Pine Grove happened late Wednesday morning on State Route 88 just west of the Irish Town Road turnoff, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The collision occurred on Aug. 20th along Carson Pass Highway or SR-88 around 10:50 a.m. and resulted in at least one fatality.

Details remain limited, but dispatch logs indicated at least two vehicles were involved, including a dark-colored sedan and possibly a red semi-truck. At one point, a third vehicle was also mentioned, though its involvement has not been confirmed.

Emergency crews transported one person to the hospital with major injuries, but they later died at the hospital. Tow trucks also responded to the scene. CHP noted that part of the roadway was blocked during the investigation, but lanes were later reopened shortly after noon.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of family.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by CHP Amador.
