Fatal Crash on I-15 Freeway, Near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (October 26, 2026) — A fatal crash occurred in San Diego on Sunday along the Interstate 15 Freeway North near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.

The collision occurred at approximately 3:32 AM on Oct. 25th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to initial reports, a gray Mazda and a Toyota collided, blocking the No. 1 Lane and several middle lanes. The collision subsequently led to additional vehicles becoming involved in the accident. Traffic was significantly impacted, with lanes being diverted off the freeway to Route 52.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, with units arriving shortly after the accident was reported. Despite their efforts, one individual succumbed to their injuries as a result of the collision. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert due to the severity of the incident, and a hard closure was implemented to manage traffic flow. Authorities worked diligently to clear the scene, however, the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing. Police are urging any witnesses to come forward with information that may assist in their investigation.
