Fatal Crash on I-5 Freeway, East Main Street in Woodland

WOODLAND, Calif., (Jan. 16, 2026) — A fatal truck accident happened Friday afternoon on the Interstate 5 Freeway southbound, just south of East Main Street in Woodland.
The incident was reported on Jan. 16th around 4:02 p.m. and involved a white semi-truck with a trailer, according to the California Highway Patrol. Emergency responders, including fire personnel, arrived at the scene shortly after the collision was reported. The semi-truck was located in the slow lane under a bridge when the incident occurred.
Preliminary reports suggest that the driver of the semi-truck may have experienced a medical episode, as indicated by a phone call received by authorities. The southbound lanes were completely closed to allow emergency services to manage the scene and conduct necessary investigations. The closure caused significant traffic disruption as the efforts to clear the scene continued.
The coroner was notified and arrived to handle the situation respectfully. Family members of the victim were reportedly present at the scene. The identification of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash and has asked any witnesses to come forward with information that might aid in the investigation.
