Deadly San Jose Collision on I-680 Freeway

SAN JOSE, Calif., (October 5, 2026) — A fatal crash occurred late Monday night on the Interstate 680 Freeway Southbound, just north of Capitol Avenue in San Jose.

The collision was reported on Oct. 5th around 11:10 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Police officers responded to the scene to find the southbound lanes of I-680 completely blocked due to the crash. A Sig Alert was issued at 11:30 p.m., advising motorists to expect delays and avoid the area.

Details from the scene indicate that a driver in a black Subaru reported the collision, although the driver did not hit the pedestrian and opted to leave the scene. Initial reports suggest the individual was struck multiple times in the middle lane, but further details on the victim’s identity have yet to be released by authorities. Emergency services and traffic diversion efforts were promptly initiated to manage the situation.
