Fatal Crash Wednesday on Ortega Highway
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO- A fatal collision took place Wednesday evening on Ortega Highway also referred to as Highway 74 involving two vehicles, per the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at precisely 4:40 p.m. between a trash truck and a Toyota Prius.
Limited details have been released at this time while the report indicated that both vehicles left the road and went off a cliff, per the CHP dispatch team.
Per an update by the OC Register, the man in the sedan identified as Mike Madigan, 69, of Lake Forest, was tragically confirmed to have suffered fatal injuries as the fire department personnel had to extricate him from his vehicle.
One other motorist, likely the driver of the trash truck was injured to a minor degree and taken to a hospital by ambulance for undisclosed injuries.
A stretch of Ortega remained completely shut down for several hours forcing motorists to detour to an alternate route.
