Two-Vehicle Collision on Highway 17 Near Campbell

SAN JOSE, Calif., (August 4, 2026) — A fatal car crash occurred early Tuesday morning between a car and a pickup truck on southbound State Route 17 near Campbell in San Jose.

The California Highway Patrol reported the crash on August 4th at approximately 2:48 a.m. near the East Hamilton Avenue offramp. The collision involved a black sedan and a white pickup truck, which became engulfed in flames. Emergency responders, including the Campbell Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of an occupant possibly trapped inside the burning vehicle.

By 2:56 a.m., southbound SR-17 was completely closed, with all lanes impacted by the debris and emergency response efforts. Authorities issued a SigAlert, warning commuters of significant delays.

The tragic event unfolded just north of East Hamilton Avenue, with fire crews working diligently to extinguish the flames. The incident’s severity prompted a rapid response from local law enforcement and traffic management teams to manage the scene and ensure public safety.
