LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 28, 2023) – Juvelyn Arroyo, Veronica Amezola, Kimberly Izquierdo were identified as passengers who died early Saturday in a fatal crash on South Vermont Avenue in South Los Angeles.
The deadly collision occurred around 5:25 a.m. on Saturday, August 26th, in front of the Weingart YMCA Wellness & Aquatic Center at West Century Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Fatal Crash Vermont Avenue
The three women — two of them sisters — were among four passengers in a Honda rideshare vehicle traveling westbound on West Century Boulevard, CBS News reports. That’s when a second motorist allegedly drove through a red light and T-boned their car at a high rate of speed, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The Mercedes reportedly spun out of control and landed on the center median.
One of the passengers from the Honda was ejected and died at the scene with the two other women.
Juvelyn Arroyo, 23, Veronica Amezola, 23, and Kimberly Izquierdo, 27, were all killed in the collision. The 38-year-old woman driving the Uber rideshare vehicle and a fourth passenger, along with Gregory Black, were badly injured and transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance.
Driver Gregory Black Arrested
Meanwhile, Gregory Black, 31, was later identified as the driver of the white Mercedes-Benz. Police later arrested the suspect and charged him with multiple criminal offenses including vehicular manslaughter.
There are Gofundme pages to raise money for funeral costs for families of the victims, Juvelyn Arroyo, and sisters, Veronica Amezola and Kimberly Izquierdo.
Finally, the fatal crash on Vermont Avenue remains under investigation.
