Man, 79, Killed in Head-on Crash on River Road
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2024)- A fatal crash involving two vehicles happened Saturday on River Road and Las Palmas Parkway just outside of Salinas in Monterey County.
A 79-year-old Pacific Grove man died in the collision at around 2:40 p.m. on Feb. 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man’s Ford F-250 pickup truck overturned in a head-on crash with an Audi SUV whose driver crossed the double yellow lines and veered into his path on River Road, KION News reported.
Fatal Head-on Car Accident on River Road
The woman was traveling south on River Road when she crashed into the man’s northbound Ford truck. Upon impact, the Ford truck overturned onto its roof roughly 20 feet off the roadway and down an embankment in a nearby field, the report said. The man driving the pickup truck at the scene and his female passenger was hospitalized.
The woman driving the Audi sustained minor injuries and was treated by paramedics, but it’s unknown if she was taken to a hospital.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating and working to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the Salinas crash on River Road.
