1 Dead, 3 Hurt in Crash at Shaffer Road and Mercedes Ave
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2019) — A 65-year-old man died and three were hurt following a head-on collision at Shaffer Road and Mercedes Avenue, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The crash was reported at 6:13 a.m. between at least two vehicles. There may have been one or two other vehicles involved as well. A news report stated that the man who died was driving an SUV that was heading north on Shaffer Road in Dense fog. The driver was passing a car ahead of him when he crashed into an oncoming vehicle. The man who died and three others were taken to a hospital. It’s unknown how badly the others were hurt in the crash.
The California Highway Patrol is heading up the investigation.
Merced County Accident Investigation
Police are reviewing the facts of this accident and will officially determine fault. At this time, it appears the driver in the SUV may be at fault for passing when it was not safe to do so due to the weather conditions.
