Deadly, Head-on Car Accident in San Geronimo
MARIN COUNTY, Calif. (August 20, 2024) — A fatal head-on crash happened Tuesday morning at Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Nicasio Valley Road in the San Geronimo area of Marin County.
The two-vehicle collision occurred along Nicasio Valley Road at 8:09 a.m. on August 20th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Nicasio Valley Road at high speed. The driver allegedly failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and crossed over double yellow lines into oncoming traffic. The car collided with an oncoming Ford Expedition, police said.
CHP officials reported Carlos Enrique Verdugo-Cruz, 19, of Petaluma, became trapped in a Honda and was unconscious and a woman in the other vehicle had complaints of pain.
Paramedics responded to help those injured, but unfortunately the Petaluma man died on scene. Also, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office sent the coroner to the scene.
Police closed down all traffic lanes and are conducting an investigation.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is heading up the investigation.
