Tina Terrell Killed in Crash on Highway 49 in Alta Sierra Area
NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. (March 8, 2022) — A fatal, head-on crash on Highway 49 happened Tuesday morning between a pickup and semi-truck at Alta Sierra Drive.
The collision occurred about 6:27 a.m. on March 8th at the Alta Sierra intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Tina Terrell, 48, was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was traveling northbound on SR-49. She attempted to avoid hitting a deer and swerved into oncoming traffic. She reportedly struck the deer and also crashed head-on into a semi-truck hauling 60,000 pounds of medical supplies. Roberto Ordaz-Moralez was driving the big rig truck southbound on Highway 49, police said.
Nevada County Fire responded to the scene, but unfortunately the woman died of her injuries. The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 49 were blocked by the collision.
Meanwhile, during the crash, a fuel tank on the semi-truck ruptured and spilled roughly 100 gallons of diesel fuel into a ditch. Authorities called a hazmat crew to respond and conduct a cleanup.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault for the Nevada County truck accident on Highway 49.
