WESTMINSTER, Calif. (Dec. 8, 2022) – An 18-year-old Huntington Beach woman died and three others ages 16 to 18 were hospitalized Tuesday night after a car crashed into a sewer project construction site in Westminster.

The solo-vehicle crash occurred about 9:38 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7th at Westminster Boulevard and Rancho Road, according to the Orange County Register. The car reportedly went off the roadway and crashed through concrete barricades. It also crashed into a chain-link fence that held it back from falling into a huge trench built for the county’s sewer project construction, according to police.

Authorities identified the person who died as 18-year-old Jayda Jean Feeney of Huntington Beach, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Meanwhile, three people survived with serious injuries including the 18-year-old driver who underwent emergency surgery at the trauma hospital, according to the Westminster Police Department. Hospital officials say he is expected to remain in hospital for between 8 and 10 days. The driver is identified as Jayson Raymond Otto of La Palma.

Investigators plan to test the young man’s blood to determine if drugs and or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

Additionally, a 16-year-old Huntington Beach girl, and a 17-year-old Huntington Beach girl, who were back seat passengers, also had emergency surgery following the collision, police said.

Witnesses to the collision may call Sgt. Anil Adam at 714-548-3770. Orange County Crime Stoppers will accept anonymous tips at 855-TIP-OCCS.
