Deadly Crash on Winchester Road (SR-79)
WINCHESTER, Calif. (May 3, 2022) — A fatal crash on Winchester Road, also known as Highway 79, happened Tuesday afternoon near Whittier Avenue.
At least one person died in the two-vehicle crash about 1:18 p.m. on May 3rd in front of Winchester Farms, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 23-year-old man driving a BMW northbound on State Route 79. The vehicle came to a curve in the roadway and reportedly veered into the path of a southbound Toyota pickup truck driven by a 44-year-old San Bernardino man. The two vehicles collided on the southbound side of Highway 79. However, someone called 911 to report the crash and the woman told CHP dispatch operators the BMW cut her off and was driving recklessly prior to the crash.
Riverside County Fire sent paramedics to the crash scene to help those involved, but sadly the 23-year-old from the BMW died prior to their arrival.
Meanwhile, the CHP is heading up the investigation into the fatal crash on Winchester Road.
Tow trucks removed both of the vehicles and investigators are collecting evidence. Witnesses may contact CHP Public Information Officer Jason Montez at 951-769-2000 ext. 221.
