Fatal Crash, Overturned Vehicle in Canal
MERCED COUNTY, California (Feb. 13, 2018) — Francisco Suarez-Barocio, 69, of Dos Palos died Tuesday morning when his black Chevrolet Tahoe SUV carrying five people went off the roadway and overturned onto its roof into a canal in Dos Palos, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place about 8:50 a.m. this morning. The vehicle was upside down and submerged in water following the collision, but passersby stopped and managed to pull out two children, ages 1 and 2 years old. The children survived with no serious injuries, but both were airlifted to Madera Valley Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
Maria Lopez, 50, was injured in the collision. Paramedics transported the injured woman to a Los Banos hospital.
Other occupants of the vehicle were not hurt, but identified as Alejandro Chavez, 25, and Sophia Babakhan, 22.
The crash remains under investigation.
Wrongful Death Accident Investigation
An investigation into this collision is underway to determine fault. It appears to be a solo collision, but it’s unknown if there was a mechanical failure or road condition to blame.
If a negligent driver or dangerous condition caused a collision that left you injured or took the life of your loved one, you may have grounds for a personal injury or wrongful death claim.
It’s important to note, however, that it’s quite common for insurance companies to try and avoid paying out a claim even when they know their insured is responsible. They may also make an offer to settle for far less than the full amount owed. This is unacceptable.
