CHP first logged the incident when a big rig and a sedan collided shortly after 8:30 p.m. The wreck occurred on the southbound 5 Freeway near Monte Diablo Avenue off-ramp.
As per the report, both vehicles apparently caught fire following the collision. Paramedics responded to the scene and confirmed that at least one person was killed in the accident.
The name of the deceased has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities will continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
