Bicyclist Killed in Fullerton Hit-and-Run Crash
FULLERTON, Calif. (August 18, 2022) – A fatal, hit-and-run bicycle accident in Fullerton happened Thursday morning at Chapman Avenue and Ladera Vista Drive.
Elfego Andrade, 67, died following the 5:07 a.m. crash on August 18th, according to the Orange County Register.
Police and paramedics responded to the intersection and located the injured bicyclist, but the driver had fled the scene and left behind vehicle parts in the roadway.
The victim was reportedly hit from behind and thrown into a brick planter on the north side of the street, police said.
Paramedics transported the man by ambulance to a local hospital, but sadly he died from his injuries shortly afterward.
Meanwhile, a witness had followed the suspect’s green 1999 Ford F-250 as it left the scene in a westbound direction on Chapman Avenue towards
Berkeley Avenue. The vehicle was reportedly missing a tire and driving on its rim, police said.
Eventually, the vehicle stopped near Delphine Place and Jacaranda Place. However, the suspect exited the pickup truck and ran away on foot.
Authorities say the driver is a Latino man dressed in black clothing who stands roughly 5 feet, 8 inches tall.
There is a GoFundMe page to help the family of Elfego Andrade with funeral costs.
