Motorcyclist Killed, Driver Arrested on DUI Charges
FULLERTON, Calif. (June 13, 2024) — A suspected DUI driver struck and killed a motorcycle rider last night in a crash on Orangethorpe Avenue and Gilbert Street in Fullerton.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12th, according to KTLA 5 News and the Fullerton Police Department.
The motorcyclist was stopped at a red light in the eastbound lanes of Orangethorpe Avenue at Gilbert Street. A driver 1999 BMW 323i rear-ended the Harley Davidson motorcycle at the intersection.
The rider was thrown off the bike into the roadway. However, the driver of the other vehicle continued traveling eastbound, dragging the motorcycle underneath the vehicle for several hundred feet. A good Samaritan managed to stop the motorist and someone called 911 for help.
Meanwhile, the motorcyclist died at the intersection and has not been identified.
However, police arrested Francisco Garcia-Vargas, 44, on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence and driving without a license,
Finally, the Fullerton Police Department is heading up the investigation into the motorcycle crash on Orangethorpe Avenue.
