
Deadly Car Accident on State Route 152 in Gilroy
GILROY, Calif. (Jan. 12, 2024) — A fatal Gilroy car crash happened Friday morning on State Route Highway 152, just west of Lake Road.
UPDATED: Two Children Killed in Crash on Highway 152
The multi-vehicle crash occurred on the eastbound Pacheco Pass Highway (SR-152) at around 7 a.m. on Jan. 12th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a gray Honda CRV went roughly 10 feet off the roadway after a collision with other vehicles. Someone called 911 to report the crash and stated there were four vehicles involved, but that has not been confirmed. Meanwhile, a semi-truck driver used their vehicle to block oncoming traffic from the crash scene.

Police issued a SigAlert and closed down Highway 152 at Bloomfield and Lovers Lane.
Paramedics responded with an ambulance and requested a helicopter to transport one person with major injuries to the hospital. Also, at least one person was confirmed dead at the scene.
Additionally, the Santa Clara County Coroner was called to the scene and investigators are working to determine fault for the Gilroy crash on Highway 152.
Finally, the investigation into the crash is ongoing and the victim’s name will be released after relatives are notified.
Santa Clara County Traffic Statistics
There were 6,553 injury and fatality collisions in Santa Clara County in 2020, according to the most recent statistics compiled by the Office of Traffic Safety. Also, 842 of these collisions involved alcohol and 1,616 were speed related, the report said. The county ranks 51st among 58 similar sized counties in California for it’s number of traffic injuries and fatalities.
Furthermore, the report states that 287 of the injury or fatality collisions involved a motorcyclist and 405 involved a pedestrian.
