Ricardo Hernandez Struck, Killed by Car Crossing the Street
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 27, 2024) — Ricardo Hernandez, 76, of Goleta, died following a pedestrian accident on Christmas Eve at Hollister Avenue and Magnolia Drive in Old Town Goleta.
The Goleta man was crossing the street with another pedestrian in a north direction when they were hit by a westbound vehicle.
The fatal crash occurred around 7 p.m. on Dec. 24th, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
The motorist was traveling at around 25 mph and told police they didn’t see the pedestrians who were in an unmarked crosswalk, police said.
Ricardo Hernandez suffered severe injuries and was unconscious and unresponsive at the scene, police said.
Paramedics rushed both pedestrians to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries at 10:49 p.m., the report said.
The man’s family was at the hospital with him at the time he died.
Investigators working on the case do not suspect drugs and alcohol were a factor in the collision.
Also, no arrests were made, and the driver has fully cooperated with investigators.
The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Response Team is heading up the traffic investigation.
