Deadly Car Accident on I-880 in Hayward
HAYWARD, Calif. (August 7, 2023) — A fatal Hayward crash on the Interstate 880 Freeway happened Sunday night near the Whipple Road off ramp.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 9:21 p.m. on Sunday, August 6th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes on the northbound side of the freeway were blocked by the vehicles.
The drivers of a white Honda CRV SUV and a Dodge Charger sedan were involved in the collision, according to the California Highway Patrol report. The woman driving the SUV was reportedly stopped in traffic lanes when the other vehicle crashed into the vehicle. The car also crashed into the center divider.
Paramedics responded, but unfortunately at least one person in the Dodge suffered fatal injuries.
Police issued a SigAlert and the roadway completely reopened around 11:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, tow trucks removed the vehicles from the roadway including the Dodge with major front-end damage.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the fatal Hayward crash on the 880 Freeway.
