Deadly Crash Behind Walmart on State Route 108

SONORA, Calif., (July 30, 2026) — A tragic head-on collision claimed the life of one person Thursday afternoon on Highway 108, at Lower Mono Way, behind a Walmart, in Sonora.

The incident occurred on July 30th around 1:22 p.m. when a 4×4 Ford F250 pickup truck was involved in a collision with another motorist, according to the CHP incident log. Emergency services were promptly notified, with units arriving on the scene shortly after the collision was reported. Police closed down westbound traffic on SR-108 at Lower Mono and the eastbound traffic at Washington Street.

Emergency medical services responded quickly, but sadly, the victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Coroner was notified and dispatched to the location.

The Sonora Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. They are urging any witnesses to come forward and assist in the investigation.
