Deadly Crash on Byron Highway
BYRON, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2024) — One person died in a fatal, head-on crash happened Saturday night on Byron Highway, just south of Clifton Court Road.
Two other people were injured in the collision at around 6:25 p.m. on Dec. 30th, according to the California Highway Patrol and Contra Costa News.
A driver in a white Chevrolet Silverado was reportedly traveling northbound on Byron Highway when the vehicle veered into oncoming traffic just south of Clifton Court Road.
The Silverado collided head-on with an oncoming grey Kia sedan whose driver was traveling southbound on Byron Highway.
Upon impact, the Kia veered off the roadway and crashed on the right shoulder where its driver was pronounced dead on scene.
Meanwhile, the Chevrolet continued traveling and finally came to a rest facing northbound between the center lane blocking both lanes.
Both the driver and passenger from the Chevrolet were injured in the collision. Paramedics responded and requested an air ambulance to transport the driver to John Muir Walnut Creek.
Meanwhile, the passenger from the Chevrolet was also transported by ambulance to John Muir Walnut Creek.
Two other vehicles including a Hyundai Elantra and a Hummer struck debris in the roadway after the collision. The Hummer may have also hit the Chevrolet after the initial crash.
Liability for the collision will be determined after the CHP completes its investigation.
