AROMAS, Calif. (June 14, 2023) — A fatal, head-on crash on San Juan Road happened early Wednesday morning near Murphy Hill Road in front of Driscoll’s Berry Store in Aromas.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 5:20 a.m. at 1750 San Juan Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP dispatch reported the drivers of a white 2010 Chrysler Town and Country van and a white 2018 Chevrolet Express cargo van were involved.
The westbound Express van was carrying 13 people when the eastbound Town and Country van reportedly crossed the double yellow lines. The two vans collided head-on and left one driver dead and the other with major injuries.
The 67-year-old Salinas man driving the older van became trapped in one of the vehicles and both vans had major front-end damage.
Meanwhile, the 62-year-old Salinas man driving the Chevrolet Express was transported by ambulance to Natividad Hospital with major injuries. Furthermore, one of the 12 passengers in the van was also treated for injuries.
Authorities closed down San Juan Road and Murphy Hill Road to investigate and clear the roadway.
Police are piecing together what happened and are conducting an investigation to determine fault.
