Woman on Motorcycle Killed; Man Critically Injured
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2023) — A woman was killed and a man critically injured in a fatal head-on crash between a motorcycle and a Subaru Saturday night on Highway 166 in the Santa Barbara County area.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 6:45 p.m. on July 29th in the 9100 block of Highway 166 between Santa Maria and New Cuyama, according to Noozhawk. The collision set off a brush fire when the motorcycle caught on fire.
A motorcycle occupied by two people collided with the Subaru when one of the vehicles veered into the path of the other one.
Fatal Head-on Crash Highway 166
The 40-year-old Tehachapi woman was killed and the 52-year-old Tehachapi man operating the bike was critically injured in the collision. Paramedics with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded and rushed him to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Meanwhile, paramedics also treated the occupants from the Subaru for minor injuries. They were described as a 68-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman who are both from Palmdale, the CHP said.
Additionally, the brush fire went on to consume less than 3 acres and was extinguished by firefighters from Santa Barbara County Fire, Cal Fire and the Los Padres National Forest Service.
Finally, investigators with the CHP’s Santa Maria station are heading up the investigation into liability for the fatal crash on Highway 166.
