
Mother of Twins Killed, Boys Injured
HERCULES, Calif. (March 24, 2023) – Ralph Ellsworth White III, 20, of Vallejo, was arrested Thursday following a crash that took the life of a mother and injured her twin, 6-year-old boys.
The collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23rd following a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle driven by White, CBS News reports.
Authorities arrested the Vallejo man on suspicion vehicular manslaughter, possession of a stolen vehicle and three counts of pursuit causing death or great bodily injury, the Hercules Police Department reports.
Police Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends in Crash
Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a stolen vehicle around 7:27 p.m.
At the time, White was seen driving the stolen 2021 Mazda SUV eastbound Interstate Highway 80 toward Hercules. A Hercules Police Department officer spotted the car exiting the highway and turning onto northbound Willow Avenue. Authorities approached the Mazda, but the driver accelerated and a short pursuit ensued.
The pursuit ended when the Mazda collided with a southbound 2017 Nissan sedan on Willow Avenue. The suspect exited the Mazda and fled on foot northbound onto Parker Avenue. However, police eventually located White near a liquor store and arrested him.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old woman driving the Nissan suffered major injuries and died at the scene. Her twin 6-year-old boys traveling with her suffered injuries. One of them was critically injured and airlifted to a hospital and the other went by ground ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation.
