2 Dead in Fiery Crash on I-15 Freeway at Cajon Pass
HESPERIA, Calif. (Dec. 1, 2021) — A fatal Hesperia crash on the Interstate 15 Freeway happened Wednesday morning at the Cajon Pass near Oak Hill Road.
A 60-year-old Apple Valley man driving a red Ford C-Max car rear-ended a stalled, blacked out Mitsubishi 4:04 a.m. on the northbound side of the I-15 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. He told CHP officials the vehicle had no lights on and he did not see it ahead of him.

The stalled Mitsubishi reportedly burst into flames or exploded upon impact and the driver was trapped inside and unconscious. The Ford’s automated system called 911 to report the crash, but the driver eventually got his phone to speak with dispatch operators.
The driver of the red Ford told 911 operators the both cars became fully-engulfed in flames. Firefighters responded and pulled the driver out of the vehicle, but the Mitsubishi driver died at the scene. The Ford driver escaped the fire with major injuries and San Bernardino County Fire transported him to Desert Valley Hospital for treatment. Sadly, he later died at the hospital.
Meanwhile, investigators continue to investigate the I-15 Freeway Hesperia crash to determine fault.
