Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision on I-5 Freeway, Near Highway 76, Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif., (Oct. 30, 2026) — A fatal hit-and-run collision involving multiple vehicles occurred Friday in Oceanside on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway, just south of Highway 76.

The incident happened shortly after 12:13 p.m. on Oct. 30th, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP officials received a crash notification from a Honda vehicle and police were dispatched to the scene.

At least three vehicles collided in the northbound lanes of I-5, including a gray Volvo, a small white Mercedes SUV, and possibly a Honda. The collision initially involved an unknown red vehicle and resulted in significant roadway disruption.

Three women reportedly exited the white Mercedes SUV and were seen standing in the center divider following the crash. Emergency services, including paramedics, were promptly dispatched to the scene. The number of injuries was initially unclear, but the situation escalated when the incident was reclassified to indicate a fatality.

Authorities are actively seeking information regarding the unknown red vehicle that fled the scene, leaving behind a chaotic aftermath. The investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing, with police urging any witnesses to come forward with details.
