Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Highway 92 in San Mateo

Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 92 East in San Mateo

SAN MATEO, Calif., (October 6, 2026) — A fatal pedestrian accident involving a hit-and-run driver occurred in San Mateo early Tuesday morning on Highway 92, under the Mariners Island Boulevard overpass near the US 101 interchange.

The deadly collision unfolded on Oct. 6th around 6:08 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Highway 92 just east of US Highway 101, the California Highway Patrol reports. Initial reports suggest that a white Toyota sedan, which may have inadvertently struck a pedestrian, continued driving and exited the highway shortly thereafter. There was also a white pickup truck stopped at the center divider, but it was unknown if it was involved.

The pedestrian, described as a white adult male, was found lying on the road in the number three lane, obstructing the slow lane just west of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, with multiple California Highway Patrol units and paramedics arriving to assist. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries.

A temporary SigAlert was issued, closing lanes two and three, leading to significant traffic delays as the investigation proceeded. The coroner has been notified, and the identity of the victim is pending release following family notification.

Authorities are actively seeking witnesses who may have seen the white Toyota sedan or any other vehicles that could be involved. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Redwood City Police Department.
