Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Western Avenue, 56th Street

Two Pedestrians Struck by Vehicle in South Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 18, 2026) – One pedestrian died, another was severely injured Monday night in a hit-and-run car accident on Western Avenue in South Los Angeles.

According to a report by the Los Angeles Police Department, two pedestrians were struck by a driver in a light-colored sedan traveling northbound on Western Avenue. The people were hit at 56th Street
around 10:55 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17th, the report said. However, the driver involved reportedly fled the scene by continuing to drive north on Western Avenue.

Paramedics responded and transported both pedestrians to a hospital, but one of them died. The other one has severe injuries and remains hospitalized, police said.

A description of the vehicle involved in the deadly crash was not provided.
