Driver Arrested Felony Hit-and-Run for Fatal Crash
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Feb. 27, 2024) — A fatal hit-and-run crash resulted in the death of a man riding a motorized scooter at Santa Barbara Street and Cota Street in downtown Santa Barbara.
The deadly crash occurred at around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24th, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department and the Independent.
A driver in a pickup truck reportedly struck the victim at the intersection. The scooter became stuck underneath the front of the truck, but the driver kept trying to drive away. Eventually, the motorist stopped and fled on foot.
Police Arrest Driver After Santa Barbara Crash
However, later the same night, the driver identified as Salvador Jimenez, 34, of Santa Barbara, later turned himself in at the Santa Barbara Police Dept.
He was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license, police said. His bail was set at $500,000.
Also, police also arrested Estefani Nava Guerrero, 26, of Santa Barbara, in connection with the traffic fatality case. She also turned herself in to police and is suspected of being an accessory to a felony and for destruction of evidence. She is one of two people connected to the case, but the third was not arrested.
The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case.
