Torrance Man, 78, Killed in Hit-and-run Collision on Artesia Boulevard
TORRANCE, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2022) — A 78-year-old Torrance man died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Artesia Boulevard Thursday morning in Torrance.
The two-vehicle traffic accident happened about 7:35 a.m. on Oct. 27th in the 2700 block of Artesia Boulevard, according to the Torrance Police Department.
Authorities say a driver in a white 2005 Ford pickup truck was traveling at high speed westbound on Artesia Boulevard. The truck reportedly rear-ended a westbound black 2000 Toyota pickup truck.
Next, the motorist in the while pickup truck spun out of control and went up on the south sidewalk where it struck the pedestrian. The truck also crashed into a residence before it came to a stop. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Meanwhile, the 78-year-old Torrance man hit by the truck died at the scene.
Also, the 44-year-old Gardena man driving the Toyota truck suffered minor injuries in the crash. Paramedics transported him to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators closed down Artesia Boulevard between Atkinson Street and Van Ness Avenue to conduct an investigation.
Torrance Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 310-328-3456.
