 Fatal Humboldt County Small Plane Crash Near Dinsmore Airport (July 15)HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (July 16, 2021) — A fatal Humboldt County small plane crash happened Thursday near the Dinsmore Airport along Highway 36.

An investigation is underway by the Humboldt Sheriff’s Office into the crash involving the deaths of multiple people.

A fixed-wing single-engine Mooney M20J plane reportedly crashed near the airport at approximately 11:54 a.m., according to sheriff’s deputies.

A fire erupted from the plane crash and firefighters responded to extinguish it before it could spread to a nearby wooded area, according to CBS 13 Sacramento.

By 2:45 p.m., authorities reported there were no survivors found at the crash scene. Meanwhile, sheriff’s deputies called the Humboldt County Deputy Coroners’ office to respond to the crash scene.

At least two people were on the plane, but the number of confirmed fatalities has been difficult due to the wreckage and subsequent fire.

Finally, the cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board.
