Bicyclist Killed in Collision in Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2022) – A fatal Huntington Beach bicycle accident happened on Pacific Coast Highway Thursday night.

A 52-year-old bike rider died in a collision with a motorist on PCH, just north of Seapoint Street in Huntington Beach, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department

The traffic accident happened about 11:20 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21st, police said.

The rider was traveling on Pacific Coast Highway at the time a northbound 2010 Lexus ES 350 struck the victim, according to Jennifer Carey of the Huntington Beach Police Department. Sadly, the bicycle rider died at the scene of the Huntington Beach accident.

The Orange County Sheriff Coroner has not identified the victim at this time pending notification of family members.

Meanwhile, the 79-year-old man driving the Lexus stopped and cooperated with authorities. The man and his wife suffered minor injuries and they were transported to a local hospital.

Finally, investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors that caused the bicycle accident, Carey said.

The city of Huntington Beach ranks second highest out of 59 cities of similar size for California bicycle accidents, according to the Office of Traffic Safety. Some 101 people were injured or killed in collisions in Huntington Beach in 2019, the latest year statistics are available. Six of those collisions were for children under 15 years old.
