Fatal Huntington Beach Pedestrian Accident on Atlanta Avenue, Delaware Street
Driver Arrested Following Suspected DUI Crash That Killed Pedestrian
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — A 35-year-old man identified as Damien O’Brien died in a Huntington Beach pedestrian accident early Sunday at Atlanta Avenue and Delaware Street.
Also, a 21-year-old Orange man, identified as Nathan Ethan Avina, was arrested for driving under the influence following the deadly collision around 12:45 a.m. at the Huntington Beach intersection, near Beach Boulevard, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Investigators say the driver was behind the wheel of a black Audi RS5 traveling eastbound on Atlanta Avenue when he struck a 35-year-old Huntington Beach man who was walking in the roadway just east of Delaware Street.
Officers responding to the scene found the pedestrian unconscious. Despite efforts by paramedics, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The driver remained at the scene and did not suffer any injuries. Police said impairment is suspected and the man was arrested without incident.

The victim, formerly of Killygordon, Co Donegal, Ireland, was Vice President of Operations at TM Grady Builders in Laguna Beach, according to an article in the Irish Independent. He is survived by his pregnant wife Michelle and two young children. A GoFundMe is raising money to support them.
