INDIO, California (September 23, 2014) – Elsie Shumway, 57, of Mesa, Ariz., was identified as the woman who suffered major injuries and died Monday morning following a single-vehicle crash on the westbound Interstate 10 Freeway, just west of Monroe Street, according to a dispatch by the Riverside County Fire Department.
CHP officers and paramedics with the CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to the 11:32 a.m. collision and cut and rescued Shumway who was trapped in the 1998 Isuzu Trooper she was driving. She died shortly after the crash at the scene about 12:09 p.m., the report said. Witnesses told police Shumway had been driving recklessly prior to the collision.
“This is a tragedy for the family of this person as they cope with their sudden loss,” said Attorney James Johnson.
