2 Killed, 1 Injured in Kings County Crash
KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (May 30, 2023) — Catalina De Torres and Arturo Gomez both died in a crash Tuesday on Laurel Avenue at Avenal Cutoff in Kings County.
The 67-year-old woman and 67-year-old man were both riding in a Honda Accord at the time of the collision.
The California Highway Patrol reported the crash around 1:42 p.m. on May 30th between the drivers of a Ram pickup truck and the gold Honda Accord, ABC 30 News said.
Authorities reported Pedro Rosas, 51, was driving the white 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling on Laurel Avenue. He stopped at a stop sign, but then entered Avenal Cutoff to make a left-hand turn in front of an oncoming northbound Honda.
Jesus Arellano, 28, who was driving the Honda, attempted to avoid the collision by swerving to the left, but the vehicles collided and left three passengers in the Honda with major injuries. Catalina De Torres and Arturo Gomez both died at the scene. A third passenger from the Honda, identified as a 77-year-old man, was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia. A 62-year-old woman was transported to the Community Regional Medical Center.
Both drivers of the Honda and the Ram survived without any serious injuries. Pedro Rosas, however, was transported to Adventist Medical Center.
It’s unknown at this time if drugs and or alcohol were factors in the crash, but the case remains under investigation.
