Car and Semi-Truck Collision in I-580
LIVERMORE, Calif. (August 2, 2023) — A fatal Livermore crash on the eastbound Interstate 580 Freeway happened Wednesday morning, just east of North Greenville Road.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 6:44 a.m. on August 2nd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The drivers of a black Toyota Corolla sedan and a semi-truck collided on the freeway.
The car had initially crashed in the No. 4 lane where it also hit freeway attenuators. Then an oncoming truck hit the disabled car and the car struck its own driver who was standing nearby.
Police issued a SigAlert for the three right lanes, but the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes remained open.
Paramedics responded and pronounced at least one person dead at the scene by 7 a.m. It’s unknown at this time if any others were hurt.
The Alameda County Sheriff Coroner will release the victim’s name after relatives are notified.
Meanwhile, the Toyota had major damage over the entire vehicle and was towed from the scene.
Investigators are piecing together what happened and will determine fault for the collision.
