Driver Arrested on DUI, Vehicular Manslaughter Charges
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2023) — A woman is dead after a suspected drunk driver crashed into a stopped ambulance Sunday on the shoulder of Shoreline Drive in Long Beach.
The deadly crash occurred at around 2:07 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29th, according to The Patch.
Christian Castillas, 27, was allegedly DUI while driving a 2018 Honda Civic together with a female passenger. The pair were traveling northbound on Shoreline Drive when the car veered onto the shoulder of the roadway and hit a stopped Long Beach Fire Department Basic Life Support Unit ambulance. It happened near the Interstate 710 Freeway’s 7th Street exit.
Paramedics transported Castillas to a local hospital for undisclosed injuries from the crash, but his female passenger did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigating the collision arrested the driver on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing bodily injury. Authorities set his bail at $100,000.
