Fatal Long Beach Pedestrian Accident Shoreline Drive, Aquarium Way
Pedestrians Hit Near the Long Beach Pike Outlet at Shoreline Drive; Woman Killed
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 16, 2023) – Romelia Cuarenta Aguilar, 60, died and six others were injured in a pedestrian accident due to an alleged reckless driver at the Pike in Long Beach on Shoreline Drive at Aquarium Way.
The deadly crash occurred at around 6:34 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14th in the downtown area of Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Authorities are looking into whether the crash was intentional and if so they wish to learn the driver’s motives.
Khalid Yagobbi, 46, was driving a white vehicle was traveling westbound on Shoreline Drive. He allegedly drove through a red traffic light at intersection and struck a woman pushing a child in a stroller in the crosswalk. The vehicle then crashed into several other vehicles in another traffic lane.
Unfortunately, the female pedestrian suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified as 60-year-old Romelia Cuarenta Aguilar. Her family posted a Gofundme account to raise money for her funeral.
Meanwhile, six other people were transported to a hospital for treatment. One of them suffered major injuries from the collision.
The Long Beach Police Department arrested the driver on alleged murder charges and he is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
