Fatal Malibu Crash Decker Road and Pacific Coast Highway
MALIBU, Calif. (July 2, 2025) — A fatal Malibu crash Wednesday led to the closure of Decker Canyon Road between Pacific Coast Highway (SR-1) and Decker Edison Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 29-year-old woman driving a black/blue 2013 Polaris RGR-800 Crew Side-by-Side ATV died. The ATV rider reportedly rear-ended a gray 2016 Mazda 6 as both vehicles traveled southbound on Decker Canyon Road. The ATV veered off the roadway and plunged 350 feet down a cliff.
The incident was first reported shortly before 10:20 a.m. on July 2nd, when the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office requested a SIG Alert due to the severity of the crash. CHP later updated the situation to a traffic advisory, confirming a full road closure in effect as investigators work the scene. Police responded to the 4200 block of Decker Canyon Road; however, the ATV was found overturned at the base of the cliff, and its driver was deceased.
Meanwhile, the 51-year-old woman driving the Mazda and her passenger were both uninjured.
Officials have not released the identity of the person killed. The closure is expected to remain in place for several hours while emergency crews clear the area and authorities conduct a full investigation.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes if traveling between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Coast Highway.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
