Woman Killed in Head-on Collision at Mission Viejo Intersection

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2025) — Ynes Laguna-Soto, 66, died early New Year’s Day in a crash with a suspected DUI driver at Marguerite Parkway and Pueblonuevo Drive.
Two vehicles collided around 1:43 a.m. on Jan. 1st at the Mission Viejo intersection, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
A suspected drunk driver traveling the wrong way in a white Chevrolet Malibu collided head-on with a woman’s white Toyota Camry sedan early Wednesday in the southbound lanes of Marguerite Parkway.
Paramedics responded and rushed Ynes Laguna-Soto to a local hospital where she later died.
Meanwhile, Geraldine Caicedo-Perez, 26, and her passenger were both treated at the hospital for undisclosed injuries. The young woman was later arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the county jail for gross vehicular manslaughter.
An investigation into the fatal crash in Mission Viejo is underway by the Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
