Fatal Motorcycle Accident Costa Mesa 55 Freeway, Interstate 405

Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on 55 Freeway

COSTA MESA, Calif. (August 14, 2023) – A fatal motorcycle accident happened Saturday afternoon on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Costa Mesa.

The two-vehicle collision occurred at 2:19 p.m. on August 12th in the northbound lanes of the Costa Mesa Freeway underneath the HOV Flyover leading to the Interstate 405 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Police responded with paramedics to the scene where the rider suffered fatal injuries.

During the investigation into what happened, a witness told CHP officers the rider was allegedly splitting lanes between lines of vehicles when the bike and a sedan collided.

The identity of the person who died will be released after family members are notified.

Finally, investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the motorcycle accident on the Costa Mesa 55 Freeway.
