Multiple Vehicles Hit Motorcycle Rider on Highway 1
SANTA MARIA VALLEY, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2024) — Several vehicles struck and killed a motorcycle rider in an accident Wednesday night on Highway 1 and Highway 135 in the Santa Maria Valley.
The deadly crash occurred at around 9:26 p.m. on Jan. 17th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the male motorcyclist initially crashed into a guardrail, possibly after colliding with a driver who fled the scene.
The rider went down in the No. 1 traffic lane and was struck by roughly four other vehicles in the roadway, the report said.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to help the motorcyclist, but unfortunately the rider died at the scene of the motorcycle accident on Highway 1.
A Toyota Corolla hybrid and a beige Nissan Altima were towed from the scene.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine liability for the motorcycle accident.
