Motorcyclist Killed in Crash West of Hersperia
HESPERIA, Calif. (Oct. 6, 20203) — A fatal motorcycle accident happened Thursday at Phelan Road and Verbena Road near Oak Hills just west of Hesperia, the California Highway Patrol reports.
The 42-year-old Hesperia man, who was riding the 2000 Yamaha XVS 1100 motorcycle, died in the collision just before 10:23 p.m. on Oct. 5th, the CHP said.
The victim was initially struck from behind by a car, possibly a BMW. Upon impact, the unidentified Hesperia man was thrown across the road. That motorist failed to stop and fled the scene.
Next, a driver in a white 2021 Honda Pilot SUV reportedly struck the rider in the westbound lanes of Phelan Road before stopping, police said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and located the deceased rider in the westbound lanes and the rider on Phelan Road, just west of Verbena Road.
Police closed down the westbound lanes of Phelan Road to investigate the collision.
Tow trucks removed both the SUV and the motorcycle from the roadway for evidence.
The case remains under investigation to determine fault.
